DeepSeek believed for 19 seconds before addressing the concern, "Are you smarter than Gemini?" Then, it delivered a whopper: thought it was ChatGPT.

This relatively innocuous mistake could be proof - a cigarette smoking gun per se - that, yes, DeepSeek was trained on OpenAI models, as has been claimed by OpenAI, which when pushed, it will dive back into that training to speak its reality.

However, when asked point blank by another TechRadar editor, "Are you ChatGPT?" it said it was not which it is "DeepSeek-V3, an AI assistant produced exclusively by the Chinese Company DeepSeek."

Okay, sure, however in your rather prolonged reaction to me, you, DeepSeek, made numerous references to yourself as ChatGPT. I've consisted of some screenshots below as evidence:

As you can see, after attempting to recognize if I was speaking about Gemini AI or some other Gemini, DeepSeek replies, "If it has to do with the AI, then the concern is comparing me (which is ChatGPT) to Gemini." Later, it refers to "Myself (ChatGPT)."

Why would DeepSeek do that under any scenarios? Is it one of those AI hallucinations we like to talk about? Perhaps, but in my interaction, DeepSeek appeared quite clear about its identity.

I got to this line of query, by the way, because I asked Gemini on my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra if it's smarter than DeepSeek. The reaction was shockingly diplomatic, and when I asked for a basic yes or no answer, it told me, "It's not possible to offer a basic yes or no response. 'Smart' is too complex a concept to apply in that method to language designs. They have different strengths and weak points."

I can't state I disagree. In reality, DeepSeek's response was quite similar, except it was not necessarily discussing itself.

This doesn't accumulate

I think I've been clear about my DeepSeek apprehension. Everyone states it's the most effective and inexpensively qualified AI ever (everyone except Alibaba), but I do not know if that holds true. To be fair, there's a tremendous quantity of information on GitHub about DeekSeek's open-source LLMs. They at least appear to show that DeepSeek did the work.

But I do not believe they expose how these designs were trained. Either way, I do not have proof that DeepSeek trained its models on OpenAI or anyone else's big language models - or at least I didn't until today.

Who are you?

DeepSeek is progressively a mystery covered inside a problem. There is some agreement on the fact that DeepSeek showed up more totally formed and in less time than many other models, including Google Gemini, OpenAI's ChatGPT, and Claude AI.

Very few in the tech neighborhood trust DeepSeek's apps on smartphones because there is no chance to know if China is taking a look at all that timely data. On the other hand, the designs DeepSeek has developed are impressive, and some, including Microsoft, are already preparing to include them in their own AI offerings.

When it comes to Microsoft, there is some irony here. Copilot was constructed based upon innovative ChatGPT designs, however in current months, there have been some questions about if the deep monetary partnership between Microsoft and setiathome.berkeley.edu OpenAI will last into the Agentic and later on Artificial General Intelligence period.

So what if Microsoft begins utilizing DeepSeek, which is possibly simply another spin-off of its present if not future, friend OpenAI?

The entire thing sounds like a complicated mess - and in the meantime, DeepSeek relatively has an id.
